Good Beer and Historic Buildings
From Heiligenstadt to Aufseß
Good beer and homemade Franconian dishes are compelling reasons to stop by at one of the brewery taverns around Heiligenstadt.
Besides the culinary delicacies, the region with its Leinleitertal valley boasts largely untouched nature and also has a great castle to show off: situated above Heiligenstadt is Greifenstein Castle, also known as little Neuschwanstein. Under the ownership of the family von Stauffenberg since 1691, the castle is certainly worth a trip. The Heroldsmühle is also worth seeing; its mill wheel is 7,20 metres high, possibly making it one of the biggest mill wheels found in Germany.
