The climbing region around Bamberg

The area around Bamberg is ideally suited as a gateway to a true climbing paradise

With Franconian Switzerland, visitors to Bamberg have a climbing region on their doorstep which is one of the most accessible climbing areas in the world. Over 6,500 routes, the many hollow crags and overhangs, towers and massifs – climbing enthusiasts can get their full climbing fix here. The Action Directe route was regarded for a long time as the most difficult free-climbing route in the world. The Corona and The Man That Follows Hell routes are currently thought to represent the toughest routes in this particular climbing area. Due to the solid rock that is easy to grip, you can climb vertically on grade III routes. This was also the birthplace of the "redpoint movement", and climbers from all over the world make a pilgrimage to this place.
Notable climbing areas are the Trubach Valley, the Walberla, the Wiesent Valley, the Leinleiter Valley, the Püttlach Valley, the Aufseß Valley and lots of other valleys.

More detailed information is provided on the Franconian Switzerland website, including the latest information about what is closed.
