Former synagogue Reckendorf
The former synagogue now functions as a "House of Culture". In the women's gallery, the exhibition "Culture and Cult" was set up with reference to the former Jewish community. On display are exhibits that came from the local Genizah from the attic of the synagogue. These objects, collected over 400 years, include religious texts as well as profane writings, contracts and writing exercises. Torah pennants, tefillin and pouches were collected here alongside items from everyday profane life, such as bodices, socks, shoes, etc. The evidence found there gives an insight into the immediate living situations of the people and the high cultural level of the Jewish citizens who once lived and practiced their faith here.
A pair of Jewish children's trousers was honored in 2018 as one of Bavaria's 100 local treasures.
The Geniza exhibition can be visited every 1st Sunday of the month from 2 to 4 pm.
