Nativity scenes rank among the loveliest - and the most tangible - aspects of the Christmas season. This is especially true of Bamberg, the Nativity Town. On a reflective stroll along the nativity trail, walkers will discover an abundance of nativity scenes spread across around 36 stations, including the Cathedral, small chapels, museums and public buildings all around Bamberg's Old Town.

Strolling through the Nativity Town
During Advent, Maximiliansplatz square in the pedestrian zone is transformed into a Christmas market, featuring among others, a large Franconian half-timber nativity scene depicting various scenes from the Christmas story. In the Sand - Bamberg's oldest district - arts and craftsmen and -women congregate around the mediaeval Church of St. Elisabeth on the first weekend of Advent. Three crafts Christmas Markets offer high quality goods on the third and fourth Advent weekends.
