1700 years of Jewish life in Germany
Bamberg looks back upon 1.000 years of a mutual Jewish-Christian history and cohabitation in town. The first Jewish settlements actually go back to the founding years of Bamberg in the year 1007 and there was a large and important Jewish community as early as 1200. That makes Bamberg one of the oldest Jewish communities in Germany.
Several exhibitions and guided tours cover the history of the Jewish citizens and Jewish life in Bamberg and in Bamberg County, especially in the anniversary year celebrating 1.700 years of Jewish history in Germany in 2021.
