Museum of History
Right next to the famous Bamberg Cathedral ...
From October 25, 2024 to April 27, 2025, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Emperor Henry II's death, only the exhibition “1000 Years Ago | Life at the court of Kunigunde and Henry II can be experienced.
The multi-faceted special exhibition focuses not only on the emperor, but also on his wife Kunigunde and the people around her. The time around 1000 comes to life with scenographic productions, digital applications and numerous opportunities to participate.
What clothes did people wear, how did they spend their days? What scope of action did women have during this time? Many myths about the Middle Ages are being questioned: Did people really bathe so rarely? Did they spend their entire lives in the same village or did they travel occasionally? The exhibition offers a comprehensive insight into the reign, military campaigns and court of Empress Kunigunde and Emperor Heinrich II, whose work was of fundamental importance for Bamberg.
The exhibition is supported by the Bayerische Sparkassenstiftung, Sparkasse Bamberg, Oberfrankenstiftung and the Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation.
A diverse supporting program with guided tours and events is also offered in the city's museums.
(From April 29, 2025, all departments of the house will be open again for the summer season.)
