Affectionately called the “Fat Woman” or “Blunnzn” by the people of Bamberg, the sculpture „Liegende mit Frucht“ (“Lady with fruit”) by Colombian artist Fernando Botero is a striking work of art in Bamberg. As the first large modern sculpture in the historic old town, it creates an exciting link between contemporary art and the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Botero is known for his unmistakable style, which is characterized by voluminous, softly rounded forms and disproportionate figures.
The purchase of the sculpture laid the foundation stone for the Bamberg Sculpture Trail in 1998.
The sculpture was acquired for the city of Bamberg by the Friends of the International Artists' House Villa Concordia e.V. with the support of the Upper Franconia Foundation and private donors.
