From 28 March to 12 April 2026, the Bamberg Nativity Association presents its 34th Passion Nativity Exhibition. Around 30 detailed nativity scenes will be on display, many of them specially designed and handcrafted by the association’s members.
Since 1990, the Matern Chapel has been a well-established venue for this unique form of nativity art. The scenes focus on biblical moments of the Passion, sometimes combined with Franconian history and regional references.
Among the exhibits are figures such as “The Risen Christ”, carved by Friedrich Theiler, as well as nativity scenes from the Carmelite Church and the Upper Parish Church. Scenes like the Entry into Jerusalem are brought to life with numerous detailed figures.
The exhibition is complemented by works from beyond the region, including a depiction of the Deposition from the Cross by Sicilian artist Angela Tripi. Her clay figures are known for their remarkable expressiveness.
The exhibition offers a calm and reflective way to engage with the Easter season while discovering the artistic and craft traditions of Passion nativity scenes.
Families are welcome: children can take part in a small Easter egg hunt within the exhibition.
