This cultural and humanities research library is steeped in tradition. It is charged with the task of supplying the city and region with literature and looking after outstanding literary treasures. Its international standing is documented by the fact that three Reichenau manuscripts dating from around 1000 have been added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage documents. Changing exhibitions give an insight into the rich treasures contained within Bamberg's state library. Significant 16th and 17th century glass paintings are displayed in the foyer. Outstanding manuscripts dating from around 1000 can be viewed in a virtual library.
