For centuries, the special proximity to Bamberg, world heritage site and university city, has shaped the development of Breitengüßbach. But the community has much more to offer than merely the neighbourhood to Bamberg. Breitengüßbach is a dynamic residential community developing fast with a character all of its own.
The main town of Breitengüßbach lies in the wide, flat valley of the River Main, which flows through the municipal area over a length of about six kilometres. Peace and quiet, fertile meadows, idyllic streams and lakes characterize the surroundings of the village. Large quarry ponds were created on both sides of the river, which was renaturalised and now invite visitors to enjoy local recreation and water sports. East of Breitengüßbach, the affiliated villages of Zückshut, Hohengüßbach and Leimershof, charmingly situated between rolling hills and extensive woodland, mark the beginning of the ascent towards Franconian Switzerland.
