Gundelsheim lies on the northeastern border of the city of Bamberg, directly at the Bamberg motorway junction (A70, A73).
The present community is first mentioned in a document as “Gundolvisheim” on 19 May, 1108, when the Bishop of Bamberg, Otto I the Holy, confirmed acquisitions and foundations to the Bamberg Cathedral Chapter, as witnessed by the ministerial “Marchward von Gundolvisheim”. The name “Heim des Gundolf” (Home of Gundolf) commemorates the founder of the settlement from the Franconian construction period of the 7th or 8th century.
The nature around Gundelsheim and its close proximity to Bamberg offer all possibilities for recreation and leisure enjoyment. For example, the Zückshuter Forst, directly adjacent to the municipality, is a vast forest area that invites you to cycle, jog or take long walks.
