Vineyard on Michaelsberg

Wine was already being cultivated on the southern slope of the St. Michael monastery complex, on the Cameradenweinberg vineyard, in the 12th century. The Bamberg Häcker (Franconian for winegrowers) also cultivated wine on other areas of land in the city in the following centuries.

Over time, many areas were put to other uses – for climatic or economic reasons.

However, the vineyard on the southern slope of the former St. Michael's monastery complex was recultivated for the 2012 State Garden Show. The wine grown here can be purchased in the monastery shop on Michaelsberg.
