Literary Hiking Path

2 hours 9 km

On the Trails of Friedrich Hölderlin and Charlotte von Kalb

The path is situated approximately 20 kilometres to the southwest of Bamberg between Trabelsdorf and Dankenfeld, two villages in the ownership of Charlotte’s family, the Marschalk of Ostheim and passes Charlotte’s beloved Friedleinsbrunnen.

The hiking path leads from the castle in Trabelsdorf to the well Friedleinsbrunnen, the castle in Dankenfeld and back to the starting point in Trabelsdorf.

Five information boards on the way give an insight into the life and times of Charlotte von Kalb and Friedrich Hölderlin (in German):

- The biography of Charlotte von Kalb
- The biography of Friedrich Hölderlin
- Hölderlin and the French Revolution
- Hölderlin's thoughts on education
- An exterior view of Hölderlin

The information points have no successive order, so hikers can start from any point of the path. There are also two boards with some of Hölderlin’s poems.
