Out and About in Franconian Tuscany
From Schloss Seehof Palace to Pödeldorf
Bamberg’s prince-bishops once spent their summers at castle Seehof. Today the palace and the gardens are a popular destination for an excursion.
The palace became dilapidated after secularisation and years of private ownership, even its furnishings were sold off by its owners; some pieces are now exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The splendour of days gone by shines through in the elaborately renovated baroque palace, the Rokoko garden with its large orangery and the restored water cascades. Lovely Franconian Tuscany with its gentle rolling hills, fields and meadows with scattered fruit trees is also worth seeing.
Starting point: Car park at Schloss Seehof Palace in Memmelsdorf
