The Bat Bath

Many have heard of bats and seen them, but few really know anything about them. There are many different types in the region. They differ in size, appearance and hunting behavior, but have one thing in common: their home is in Franconia. The bat trail between Viereth and Unterhaid, newly installed by the Franconian river paradise with a group of volunteer citizens and the communities, introduces the mostly nocturnal residents of the region at seven stations. In addition to the German and English language information boards, which are designed in the shape of bats, and a small search game, QR codes provide a digital extension. As a family-friendly path that is suitable for prams and balance bikes, the almost 4 km long route is an ideal excursion destination. The entire route is marked with a bat-shaped hiking sign. The path creates a direct hiking path connection between the two nature parks Steigerwald and Haßberge through the Main valley, which has so far not been available in the district of Bamberg. You can start either at the town hall in Viereth or at the historic cellar lane in Unterhaid. Think of sun protection and something to drink, especially on hot days. There are places to stop for refreshments in Unterhaid and Viereth.
