For those travelling by train, Bamberg is on the ICE high-speed line Munich-Nuremberg-Berlin. You can reach Bamberg from Berlin in just 2.5 hours, and from Munich it is less than 2 hours.

Within the greater Nuremberg area, you have a large number of regularly scheduled connections with regional trains and S-Bahn trains. Afterwards you can use the city buses in Bamberg to travel back and forth through the city and the surrounding area. The best way to find out about regional train and city bus connections is to use the VGN timetable information or download the VGN app onto your smartphone.
