First thing in the morning you can fortify the constitution with a Bamberg croissant and a cup of coffee, perhaps in Austraße, the street lined with inviting cafés, tucked away just behind the pedestrian zone, or maybe on the Upper Bridge. A guided tour or an audio tour provide an initial overview of Bamberg's sights. The Cathedral, the Old Court, the New Residence, Little Venice and many other attractions are just waiting to be discovered. The inns in the Old Town and the breweries are an ideal place to stop for lunch.
In the afternoon you can admire the city from above by climbing Michaelsberg, upon which St. Michael's Monastery is perched with its magnificent church boasting an impressive ceiling fresco. Albeit, the church is closed for repairs at the moment, but the breathtaking view, the vineyard and the Benedictine gardens are well worth the walk uphill. Afterwards it is well worth taking a look at the antique shops and stalls. In the evening, you can indulge in a traditional menu at one of Bamberg's many beer cellars or in one of the brew pubs, attend a concert by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra or discover what Bamberg has to offer in the way of cabaret and jazz.
