In the heart of Bamberg's old town, at the foot of the cathedral hill, lies the historic Schlenkerla Brewery Taproom. Here you can enjoy the famous "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" (smoked beer) in the cozy taproom or as a standing beer outside. It's served directly from oak barrels, and in addition to the classic Märzen, seasonal varieties are also available.
The smoked malt for Bamberg's specialty is dried over an open wood fire in the brewery's own malt house, giving the beer its distinctive flavor. The Schlenkerla smoked beer brewery is one of only two breweries worldwide that produce their smoked malt in this way. This is why "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" is also a member of the Slow Food® Ark of Taste.
The Schlenkerla kitchen team will spoil you with Franconian specialties. From Schäuferla (roast pork shoulder) and Bamberg onions to modern interpretations of Franconian cuisine – all dishes are prepared fresh daily using regional ingredients whenever possible.
