“Apoll” by Markus Lüpertz

The disputed German artist Markus Lüpertz often alludes to the great archaic motives of the classic era. Apoll is one of them and shows the Roman god in a very different light. Its final location near the little church St. Elisabeth, was proposed by the artist himself. The sculpture is set on a pedestal nearly a metre high, the sculpture itself is 1.88 m high.

When the sculpture was unveiled, Lüpertz had the idea to create stained-glass windows in St. Elisabeth's church, immediately behind the statue. The artist Markus Lüpertz designed eight different windows which will be fitted gradually within the next few years.
