Bamberg Cathedral Music

Bamberg Cathedral Music is the musical institution of Bamberg Cathedral.

It is the musical home of more than 300 singers active in various choirs. The Cathedral Choir, over 800 years old, includes boys and men, while girls have sung in the Girls' Choir since 1989. The Cathedral Music's flagship ensembles are the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Youth Choir. In addition, there is a Women's Chamber Choir, a Schola Cantorum, and the DomVokal Choir. The youngest singers participate in the Music Garden and early childhood music groups, as well as the preparatory choirs.

The Cathedral Music ensembles have a firm place in the cultural life of the city of Bamberg. Almost every Sunday, one of the choirs can be heard at Chapter Masses and Pontifical Masses in Bamberg Cathedral. Highlights include the solemn orchestral masses on the major feast days of the liturgical year, during which the choirs, together with members of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, perform representative works of sacred music. Choral concerts are also regularly held in the cathedral, such as recent performances of J. S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Handel's "Messiah," Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang," and Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater." The Bamberg Cathedral Choir collaborates with renowned soloists and orchestras such as the Bamberg Symphony, the Nuremberg Chamber Academy, and the baroque orchestra "La Banda."

Admission to all services and concerts of the Bamberg Cathedral Choir is free.
