Music is an integral part of daily life in Bamberg, and the Municipal Music School is one of its most vibrant hubs. Children, young people, and adults alike learn, rehearse, and make music here within the historic St. Getreu Provostry on the Michelsberg. With a broad spectrum of offerings—ranging from classical music and jazz to modern ensembles—the music school has shaped the city’s cultural life for decades. Around 2,000 people take advantage of its diverse programs each year.
Since 2025, the music school has also boasted a newly opened festival hall—a special gem with outstanding acoustics, situated right in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Renovated in accordance with heritage preservation standards, the hall blends a historic atmosphere with modern concert facilities, providing the ideal setting for chamber music, jazz concerts, vocal recitals, and many other musical gatherings.
Attending a concert here offers an intimate musical experience: there is no great distance between the audience and the performers—just plenty of expression, passion, and a personal atmosphere. Whether featuring young talents, experienced instructors, or renowned guest musicians, the concert series in the festival hall invites you to discover musical diversity in an extraordinary setting.
