Spezial brewery

Smoked beer brewed in accordance with the Bavarian purity law

The Spezial brewery was established in 1536 and is almost as old as Klosterbräu on the left arm of the River Regnitz. Bamberg's second smoked beer is brewed at Obere Königstraße 10. Its smoky taste is milder than that of the Schlenkerla beer. The "Spezial" smoked beer is brewed as a Lager, Märzen and wheat beer, with Spezial smoked beer also appearing for the first time as a Bock beer this November. The only beer made without smoked malt is the "ungespundetes" (unfiltered beer) - a light, bitter hop "Spezial" beer which is only available at the brewery inn.
