City Hall Baunach

The town of Baunach is located in the area of a prehistoric settlement, the core of which was the Staffelberg Hill. No less than 50 burial mounds in the woods of the surrounding area as well as a number of fortified dwellings from the Hallstatt and Latene periods bear witness to this.

Prehistoric road connections led through the town area from the Regnitz basin to Thuringia and the Saale region. Baunach itself was founded during the second Franconian settlement period from 650 to 750 AD, carried out by Franconian counts, who named the place after the Baunach River. It was first mentioned in a document on 4 July, 802. The first town charter was granted as early as 1328 by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian.

Those who came to Baunach in 1946 after the war settled in a small rural town dominated by agriculture. This character of town has changed fundamentally. The development of Baunach into a small modern town in terms of population and facilities was achieved in the last 70 years.
