CON Bamberg – a space for dance, movement, and creativity – is located on the first floor of a building complex at Jäckstraße 35 in Bamberg. Johanna Knefelkamp – dancer, choreographer, and dance educator – founded it in the summer of 2019. It now offers space for many artists, events, and themes: CON serves as a rehearsal space, a residency venue for dance companies from near and far, a place for dance education and movement experiments by the CON team and other dance professionals, an event space, and the heart of the CON.NECT Bamberg dance festival, which took place in 2021 and 2023. The space and its diverse activities are supported by CONdance e.V. (board members: Johanna Knefelkamp, Gudrun Lange, and Dorothea Gack), a registered association that promotes contemporary dance in Bamberg.
Everything created at CONdance e.V. is for the benefit of the people. For the city, for the community, for everyone who wants to move, watch, reflect, or empathize. Our understanding of contemporary dance deliberately stands in contrast to an elitist concept of art. We believe in openness instead of exclusion, in encounter instead of distance. For us, being grounded means art that touches us because it comes from life—and has a reciprocal effect on life. Dance as a human experience, rooted in reality, clear, accessible, and vibrant.
This creates a vibrant place of encounter: open, warm, and inviting. A space where movement connects and where people are welcome.
