The Franconian Brewery Museum in Bamberg invites you on a journey through the history of beer brewing in Franconia. Housed within the historic vaulted cellars of a former monastery brewery on the Michelsberg, the museum brings Franconian beer culture to life.
Spanning approximately 1,000 square meters across five levels, the museum features numerous exhibits that offer insight into traditional beer production—from raw materials and the brewhouse to the fermentation cellar and bottling process. Machinery, brewing equipment, beer steins, and bottles tell the story of the craft, the technology, and the region’s brewing heritage. A particular highlight is the historic ice cellar.
Guided group tours—centered on the idea that "knowing more about beer means enjoying it more"—provide fascinating details about the journey from grain to finished brew. For individual visitors, a "bring-your-own-device" (BYOD) audio guide is available. Tasting sessions can also be arranged to round off your visit. Information regarding accessibility and current offerings can be obtained directly from the museum.
A stroll across the Michelsberg and through the monastery grounds, combined with a visit to the nearby eateries, makes for a perfect addition to your museum experience.
A must-see for those interested in beer culture, brewery enthusiasts, technology fans, groups, and weekend excursionists alike.
