Winter exhibition in the Diocesan Museum

Veit Stoss Diözesanmuseum Bamberg

The Carmelites, one of the great medieval mendicant orders, have been based in Bamberg for 750 years. The exhibition in the Diocesan Museum tells the eventful history of the religious community and its monastery on Kaulberg: heydays of art and spirituality, but also war looting, reform, abolition and new beginnings mark the past centuries from the Middle Ages to the present.
Among the valuable objects on display are old monastery views, manuscripts, a winged altar relief and fragments of the famous Christmas altar by Veit Stoss.

From December 1st, 2023 to January 9th, 2024, the exhibition will also include a fine selection of monastery nativity scenes expanded.
