The choir doesn't see itself as a traditional concert choir, but rather as a vibrant community of women who enjoy making music together. They sing pop, rock, and German-language classics – songs that many know and can immediately sing along to. The arrangements are written specifically for the choir: three-part, clearly structured, and designed so that even singers without extensive choral experience can easily join in.
The focus is less on perfection and more on the experience itself. Rehearsals are a regular weekly gathering where music, community, and a good atmosphere come together. This very combination defines the character of Sommerzimmer: a place where you can escape from everyday life for a few hours and sing loudly together.
The choir also feels at home on stage. Performances take place not only in traditional concert halls, but also in bars, beer gardens, and at festivals – anywhere people gather and enjoy music.
During the warmer months, the Sommerzimmer choir rehearses every Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. under the Löwenbrücke bridge in Bamberg. Anyone passing by or who simply wants to listen is welcome to stop and listen. The choir deliberately rehearses in the heart of the city – open, audible, and close to the people.
The Sommerzimmer thus represents a new kind of choir: open, modern, and connected to real life. Women between their early twenties and mid-fifties come together here to experience something they couldn't achieve alone – the sound of many voices filling the space and bringing people together.
Sommerzimmer is a women's choir from Bamberg, founded in the spring of 2025. The ensemble is led by choirmaster Thomas Kaminski, who has already established several modern choral concepts in the region. Sommerzimmer follows the same principle: singing together without elitism, but with musical ambition and plenty of energy
