Town hall Memmelsdorf municipality

The large municipality of Memmelsdorf with its approximately 9,400 inhabitants is located in the immediate vicinity of the world cultural heritage site of Bamberg. Its natural, scenic location and the Baroque Seehof Palace with its impressive park at the entrance to the town attract numerous visitors to Memmelsdorf every year.

The main town of Memmelsdorf (3,264 inhabitants) was first mentioned in 1124 and forms the administrative seat of the municipality with the town hall and the building yard as well as the citizens’ house. The centre of the village is the Catholic parish church Maria Himmelfahrt, this is also where the two traditional breweries of the Höhn and Straub families are located. The sports centre with outdoor facilities and the Seehofhalle are the venues for numerous events. Memmelsdorf is the Carnival stronghold in Bamberg County with a long tradition and the largest parade on Carnival Sunday. In addition to the big Parish festival, celebrated in mid-August, the May market (first Sunday in May) is a big event with an open-air fashion show, and so is the two-day Christmas market on the 3rd  Advent weekend. Since 2004, Memmelsdorf, together with the municipalities of Litzendorf and Strullendorf, is part of the tourism region known as “Fränkische Toskana” (Franconian Tuscany) presenting the hospitality, culture and nature of this outstanding cultural landscape together.
