Their hallmarks are precision, expressiveness, and stylistic authenticity. Founded in Berlin in 1982, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (known as AKAMUS) is now one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras specializing in historically informed performance, boasting an unparalleled history of success.
AKAMUS performs on the most prominent concert stages in Europe and beyond. The ensemble is a cornerstone of cultural life in its home city of Berlin; for over 35 years, it has presented a subscription series at the Konzerthaus Berlin, and since 1994, it has focused on Baroque opera at the Berlin State Opera.
AKAMUS frequently collaborates with internationally renowned soloists, such as Isabelle Faust, Kit Armstrong, and Alexander Melnikov. A partnership with the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests resulted in the highly successful production of "Dido & Aeneas" (with music by Henry Purcell), which has been performed around 100 times in locations ranging from Berlin to Sydney. Furthermore, a collaboration spanning more than 30 years with the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin has yielded numerous award-winning recordings.
