In the Land of the Thousand Ponds
From Schlüsselfeld to Reichmannsdorf
The region around Schlüsselfeld is called “The land of the thousand ponds”; rightfully so, since there are indeed a plethora of ponds crossing the landscape.
Apart from the ponds, the meadows and the stand of old trees in the Steigerwald Forest are the typical attributes of the region. Another must-see are the remains of the mediaeval fortification of Schlüsselfeld with the town gate: in the 15th and 16th century the prince-bishops of Würzburg fortified their border here and a watchman fulfilled his duties until the 19th century.
