Trail of Modern Sculptures

Modern art within an historical setting

Part of the way of sculptures- the Botero sculpture

Botero, Avramidis, Lüpertz or Wortelkamp - the exhibitions of modern artists of the International Artists' House Villa Concordia laid the foundation for this trail of sculptures and modern art in Bamberg.

The circular route takes you past the main sights and also to some lesser-known places and squares. The "Path of Modern Sculptures" received a very prominent addition in 2021 thanks to the stained glass windows by Markus Lüpertz. The whole trail offers an exciting contrast to the historic old town. The sculptures by contemporary artists from all over the world enter into a dialogue with the old buildings of the World Heritage Site and provide great new vistas.

The walk starts directly in the Old Town, opposite Tourist Information at the sculpture "Slow Dream" by Rui Chafes. The walk leads through the historic Old Town via Stephansberg Hill and Cathedral Hill to the monastery gardens of St. Michael’s. Some stairs lead up to the monastery on Michaelsberg Hill, which can be bypassed via the street if necessary. Along the left arm of the River Regnitz, the route then leads back to the old town.

The path offers a total of 15 stations with a wide variety of sculptures by artists from all over the world.
