Discover Bamberg tradition - A walk through Bamberg's Gardener's Town

Centuries ago, Bamberg gardeners were already exporting their products - onions, seeds, but especially liquorice - far beyond the city's borders. It is not for nothing that the affectionate nickname "Zwiebeltreter" is still used today for people from Bamberg.
With its wide, open spaces, the Gardener's City characterises Bamberg's cityscape. Cultivated areas in the middle of a city are unique in the whole of Germany. No wonder the Gardener's Quarter is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Old Town of Bamberg".

For a long time, Bamberg's Gardeners' Quarter was an insider tip. Now the circular walk through the Gardener's Town invites anyone interested to discover this special quarter with its medieval structures and house gardens. Besides many facts about the old gardening tradition, there are also lots of interesting stories about the everyday life of the gardeners. One of the many typical "gardeners' houses" can even be visited. It houses the gardeners' and crocheters' museum. Another highlight on the circular route is the viewing platform, which offers a unique view of the inner-city cultivated areas. Of course, there are also several market gardens along the circular route, from where, for example, the Bamberg pointed savoy cabbage can be taken directly home.
