Reckendorf
At the foot of the Haßberg hills
Reckendorf’s history goes back to the year 855. The old town with its many historical buildings of the former Jewish cattle dealers and the synagogue illustrate the rich history of the village. The Jewish cemetery was founded in 1798.
Sights: St. Nikolaus church with a bell tower from the 13th century and the former synagogue.
There is an exhibition in the former synagogue, now used as a location for cultural events. It shows exhibits from 400 years of Jewish history in Reckendorf, found in the Genisah, the depot underneath the roof, for all those things bearing the name of God, that were not allowed to be disposed of. The exhibition opens once a month, every first Sunday of the month from 2 to 4 pm, or by prior arrangement.
