High above the old town rises Michaelsberg, one of Bamberg's seven hills. It has shaped the cityscape for over a thousand years. Impressive buildings, a terraced garden, orchards and a vineyard surround the former Baroque monastery complex. From here, you can enjoy an incomparable view of the World Heritage city.
Highlight: The Himmelsgarten – A Masterpiece of Sacred Art
The famous "Himmelsgarten" (celestial garden) in St. Michael's monastery church features over 580 detailed images of plants – from native herbs to exotic species such as pineapple and pomegranate. The Baroque ceiling painting from 1617 is unique in its botanical diversity and is being carefully restored as part of the current renovation. Therefore, what the masterpiece will look like in the future remains a secret.
